5 Great Tips to Picking a Wedding Photographer
Choosing a wedding photographer is an important first step to planning a wonderful wedding. Here are five great tips to help you pick the right photographer for your wedding.
First things first: Look at the pictures!
Do you like the work? Start online and look at the photographer’s website and/or blog. Is the work representative of what you want for your wedding photography? Evaluate the work based on the look and feel of the images. The photographer you hire will be documenting your wedding day, so you want to consider both the quality and the style of the images.
Hold an Album in your hands
When you meet in person, ask to see some sample albums. Remember, the album is the key presentation piece for all your memories, so have a clear understanding of the feel and quality of the precious container. This is a great opportunity to evaluate the work of the photographer, his or her sense of quality, as well as the album styles offered in the wedding packages. Not all albums are created equal.
Get to know your photographer
Professionalism and personality are both important in selecting a wedding photographer. You need to like your photographer! After all, you will be spending your wedding day with this person “shadowing you,” while she/he is capturing all those precious wedding day memories. Take the time to ask questions and discuss your wedding day. Treat every meeting or phone conversation with a potential candidate as an informal interview.
The pre-wedding or engagement session is a great opportunity to work with your photographer before your wedding and get to know each other better. If your package does not include the pre-wedding session, many photographers have the option to add this for a reasonable fee because we like it too! The end result is a lot of great images of the two of you that can be used for invitations or announcements, favors and guest book, plus the added benefit of being more comfortable and relaxed with your photographer on your wedding day.
Invest in a package
Your best investment for wedding photography is a package. Photographers give the best value in their packages because they are able to plan ahead to meet your needs and expectations. Most photographers are flexible with their packages because they know how important this day is to you! If you have special requests, talk to your photographer about designing a package that is right for you.
