Richard Photo Lab
I cannot say enough good things about this photo lab. And, since I shoot 100% film, I cannot imagine the thought of any other lab processing my film, scanning my negatives, printing my proofs and reprints, and so on. They are bar none the best quality for photographic services and their customer service is stellar.
Around the time that digital photography really took off, I left my current home of Sacramento, California, and moved to the small town of Goldendale in south central Washington (just north of the Columbia Gorge River). I love it here and the beauty of this region is breathtaking. Plus, Portland, Oregon happens to be one of my favorite cities, so at just two hours away, it is an easy trek there for food, culture and fun. The one thing missing for me was access to a professional photographic lab. Many of the full service labs in Portland were being bought by other companies, or transitioning to another type of service because of the changes in the industry. After working in labs for so many years, this was a difficult time for me.
When I lived in Sacramento, the labs knew me and knew how I liked my work printed, or I had access to the darkroom and got to print it myself. I found a couple small labs in Portland where I was pleased with the quality, but they were not set up for handling large jobs like weddings and events. I shipped film out to other labs that were recommended, but I could not find the right fit. I was disappointed with the quality of the work and the customer service was dismal and sometimes nonexistent. I love film and wanted to continue shooting it, but now I was feeling as though I was a dying breed. The professional labs all seemed to be headed to digital only and not looking back.
Then the clouds parted and I found Richard Photo Lab. They were recommended to me by another professional wedding photographer shooting film, so I decided to give them a try. I must admit at this point, I was very skeptical. With my first order, I knew they were different. The scans were excellent quality, free of dust, and they set up a profile to insure consistency in the scans with all my work based on sample images and information about my preferences. When there was a problem, the source was not important, only the final outcome. Their goal was for the end result to be perfect, not just satisfactory.
I really feel that Richard Photo Lab has made my images sing, my products shimmer and my workflow oh so much easier. I’m immensely grateful to them for renewing my passion about film and supporting me in my business dream. They will tell you that the continued success of their photographers means success for Richard Photo Lab, and everything they do from their products to their customer service confirms that they practice this very belief. Visit them in person, call them on the phone, or go to their website and I guarantee you will have the same experience.
